Spring is Peeking Around the Corner

The rain finally stopped yesterday and the sun came out for a few hours so we took advantage of the situation and spent a little time in the garden.  We haven’t done anything outside but harvest a little spinach between rain storms.  It felt really nice to be working outdoors, even if it was just to pull weeds.
I was somewhat surprised to see that some of our trees were already starting to bud out.  The picture above is our Almond tree.  The peach tree has buds too.

This is a picture of the blueberry bush..it’s starting to flower.  I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised to see the trees budding, after all, we’ve passed the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year) and the days are starting to lengthen.

But what surprised me most were these little Johnny Jump-ups, that have spread from where I originally planted them, and are creeping across my yard each season.  They’re now coming up between the pavers of my walkway.

I didn’t expect them see them already.  The bulbs are beginning to sprout as well.  Spring is coming.
